Big Pun 20th Year Anniversary

Big Pun was a Puerto Rican rapper emerging from The Bronx hip hop scene in the mid 1990s. Pun's lyrics are notable for their technical efficiency, having minimal pauses to take a breath, heavy use of alliteration as well as internal and multi-syllabic rhyming schemes. He is frequently cited as one of the best MCs of all time. Big Pun was initially discovered by Fat Joe, and made his earliest appearance on Fat Joe's 1995 album Jealous One's Envy. In 1997, Pun signed with Loud Records as a solo artist and released his Grammy-nominated debut studio album Capital Punishment in April 1998 to critical acclaim and commercial success, peaking at #5 on the Billboard 200 and becoming the first solo hip hop record by a Latino artist to go Platinum. Big Pun died on February 7, 2000 his second album, Yeeeah Baby, was completed after his death and released in April 2000. It peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard charts and earned gold record status within three months of its release.

Super O, worked in conjunction with the Big Pun estate on the 20th anniversary of his debut album Capital Punishment. Sony Music’s Certified classics released a special double vinyl collectors edition, we helped license the Big Pun pictures from the legendary photographer Danny Hastings to be used for the Capital Punishment vinyl. The estate also designed and used the colors from the album artwork, as well as having “BIG PUN” on the heels for the limited Patrick Ewing Athletics 33 Hi sneaker. Super O, organized the in store release of the sneakers at a special event held at BX Sports in the Bronx, one of Pun’s most frequented stores. They sold out in less than an hour making them one of the fastest selling sneakers for the company.
